Dr Dawn Heather, Lead Researcher on the European Biomed research, has followed the development of care at Appletree. She recently commented: ‘During the Biomed research, we discovered that all the autism-specific models, without exception, were developed by parents, to provide care for their children in the long term.
The difference in what you are doing is that you are having an impact on the authorities. We both know the lag that occurs between public need and the response from health care givers that are government driven. That is slowly changing, but you are publicly demonstrating how individualised care can and should be provided.
Keep making the films/documentaries/editorials – It is vital to consolidate the format - I am anticipating that others will either join forces or will develop additional services to swell the ranks.’
