‘Coming Home: Community for One’ Exhibition in Scottish Parliament

MESS presented by Scottish Theatre Producers
MESS is about turning an ordinary daily routine into an extraordinary adventure, a performance created for people with complex learning needs. It features character clowning, harmony singing, intensive interaction, suspense and surprise.
Created in collaboration with Oaklands School, Edinburgh, devised and performed by Ben Winger, music composed by John Kielty.

A small surburban garden with a Japanese theme. The garden was designed and planted in 2019 with the aim of being low maintenance and offering a fun and safe environment for children. The Japanese features include a stone lantern, a water bowl, the placing of rocks, raked gravel and a timber building. The planting includes prunus, acer, bamboo, hostas, ferns and flowering plants. Foliage and texture are important elements. Views of the distant hills are seen as an extension of the garden in the Japanese tradition.
Directions: Muirfield connects Muirend Road with Burghmuir Road. 36 Muirfield is the white bungalow near the junction with Muirend Road on the left-hand side as you travel up the hill. The 7b bus from Mill Street in the centre runs every 30 minutes. Alight at Fairies Road just before the junction with Viewlands Road West. Go straight over the mini roundabout continuing along Fairies Road. At the next mini roundabout turn left into Muirend Road. Muirfield is the first turning on the right with number 36 the second house on the right. If coming by car please park on Muirend Road to avoid blocking neighbours’ access.

Appletree Party
The Trustees invite you to a Garden Party at Appletree to meet with other friends, families and supporters. David Waring, Music Therapist, of F# Music Practice, will join us to lead us in songs and music. There will be food and drink, the PAMILOO, chance to paint. Researchers from Universities of Portsmouth and Edinburgh Napier visit
Louis Sainsbury is at the heart of research into how Appletree Community came about. Using mixed storytelling methods, painting, photography, music, Louis, Kate and those who collaborated with them, will share their learning about three different phases of their journey: Vision, Implementation, Sustainability.
The resulting digital resource is intended to benefit others in similar positions, people with learning disabilities and autism, families, professionals, policy-makers. wider community.
The morning session on 12th April will be held at the Bield, Blackruthven. The afternoon on 12th at Appletree. Both morning and afternoon sessions on 13th will be held at the Bield.

Lucy Adams, BBC Social Affairs Correspondent, tells the stories of four young men detained in hospital because of the lack of expert social care.

Felting workshop
An afternoon of felting, with lots of sensory experiences: stroking fleece, tearing pieces of coloured wool, spraying with soapy water, rubbing wet bubble wrap to bond it.

Jubilee weekend garden party
A garden tea party celebrating the Jubilee. A time to get to know each other, time to share stories and make plans for the future.

Easter egg hunt
We are hold an Easter Egg hunt in the garden and barn at Appletree Community, Maidenplain Steading, Aberuthven. Based in the beautiful Perth and Kinross countryside, this event enables people with PMLD/ autism, their families and carers to connect and support each other.
With fun and friendly atmosphere for everyone to enjoy, there will be party food and activities including seed planting, Egg-painting, an Easter egg hunt, and an Accessible Easter Service with singing. Thanks to PAMIS we will have the Pamiloo. Please let us know if you would like to attend.
