Research launch

Louis and Kate Sainsbury at the launch of the research

Louis and Kate Sainsbury collaborated with PAMIS, the Aiteal Trust and the Universities of Portsmouth and Edinburgh Napier to produce ‘Louis’s Story: The Story of Appletree Community’, research launched at Appletree on Monday 19th June.

Using KAWA storytelling method, based on the metaphor of a river the team identified factors in Louis’s life and the development of Appletree that were obstacles (boulders), or aids (driftwood), or gave security (banks). The research is relevant for people detained in hospital and their families and for professionals, who seek care and housing in community. It offers hope that solutions are achievable, is realistic about timescales and challenges.

Also present at the launch, were Laura Mcardle, Patron of the Aiteal Trust and her PA, Louis’s support team from Scottish Autism, parents, welfare guardians, representatives from Scottish Government, Perth and Kinross HSCP and IJB, SCLD, PAMIS, the Bield, the Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane, BBC Scotland’s Social Affairs correspondent, Trustees of the Aiteal Trust.
